Zelenskyy commented, "It's evident that Moscow is rushing to restart conversations immediately after it hears about cruise missiles." These remarks addressed earlier comments about providing long-range weapons to the Ukrainian military.

Diplomatic Moves and International Reactions

A former American diplomat, Dan Fried, commented, "Putin is trying to disrupt the progress toward increased sanctions on the Kremlin." Fried continued, "We'll see on Friday, but the likelihood of achieving a ceasefire by pushing Russia to engage sincerely appear to have diminished."

The development followed Trump had in recent days been strengthening his rhetoric toward Moscow until Thursday's conversation with Putin, which the Kremlin characterized as "extremely frank and trustful."

EU Energy Restrictions and Economic Impact

EU authorities have established a requirement for energy importers into the EU to prove their fuels are not made from Russian crude, according to a document released on recently. This step is included in the European Union's forthcoming ban on purchases of refined products made from Russian petroleum, which is included in its latest restrictive measures against Moscow over its war in Ukraine.

Financial analysts noted that investment activity appeared to be considering the possible reduction of India's imports of Russian crude. Several oil processors in India are getting ready to cut Russian oil imports, with expectations of a gradual decrease, as reported by insiders knowledgeable about the matter.

"This is a positive development for the crude oil price as it would eliminate a major customer of Russian oil," said a market analyst, adding that crude values were stable on Thursday.

Military Developments and Energy Attacks

A massive Moscow's drone and rocket assault targeted gas facilities in Ukraine's eastern regions on Thursday, causing disruptions in multiple areas. Authorities in Ukraine reported that Russia launched hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles, along with aerial munitions.

"This autumn, the Russian forces use every single day to attack at our energy infrastructure," said Volodymyr Zelenskyy, noting that strikes affected the areas of northern Ukraine, eastern Ukraine, central Ukraine, northeastern Ukraine and western Ukraine.

Global Diplomatic Responses

Ukraine's envoy to the United States, Olga Stefanishyna, stated that Moscow demonstrated its real attitude to peace through the "terror" of these attacks. "The Russian government yet again opted for missiles over talks, making this assault into a clear setback to ongoing diplomatic initiatives," she said.

At the same time, the EU's foreign policy chief, the bloc's representative, announced that the European Union had little option but to build up defensive systems against Russian threats. Kallas announced a "roadmap" to prepare for possible security challenges by the end of the decade, including a new defensive network to be fully operational by the 2027 deadline.

This initiative, called the "European drone defence initiative," is projected to start operations initially by the 2026 timeline and be fully functioning by the end of 2027. Brussels hopes to secure the backing of member state representatives at a meeting in the coming days.
