The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
