Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not Genuine Supporters'
Fulham Begin Powerfully to Beat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "they can't be real Tottenham fans" by boss Frank.
Tottenham conceded a pair of goals in the first six minutes to lose 2-1 to their opponents, registering their tenth Premier League home loss of 2025.
However the primary talking point was Fulham's next score when Vicario lost possession well beyond his box.
The goalkeeper came out to deal with a long ball and took the ball near the sideline.
But, rather than booting it out of play, the Italian turned and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
The forward laid the ball off to Wales midfield player Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the touchline measured at thirty-six point six metres.
Seconds later when the ball came to Vicario again, some Spurs supporters booed him.
Spurs were booed off at the interval, with the side 2-0 down, and again at the final whistle.
One of those booing episodes truly irritated the manager.
"It came to my attention some of our fans reportedly booed the situation and booed following, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager commented about the fans' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals can't be true Spurs fans that act that way. Fair enough booing following the match, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting one another, we are behind each other moving ahead."
Tete had given the visitors a early lead prior to Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an better second period showing.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Hart remarked that the next score was "totally avoidable".
"I certainly understand the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the part Vicario is playing. He is a great team player, he's a true figure in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your actions.
"The keeper was deeply involved in what ended up to be the winning score."
'It's In the Game, I Can Handle It'
Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Vicario After the Match
Italy national team Vicario is in his 3rd season with Spurs.
He said after the match that he had to accept the feedback.
"That score was a mistake of mine, I take responsibility for it," he commented.
"My aim was to kick the ball long and I just hit the ball in a bad way. That made an even bigger challenge to climb."
He stated being booed "comes with football".
"I am mature, what can I say?" he continued. "The team cannot be influenced by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.
"It's on the team to stay more calm, to focus on our own performance. We are lacking in composure and calmness to overturn outcomes. This match is a bad defeat and it's hard to take."
'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Goal Line'
In spite of Vicario's error, it was not an easy score for Wilson to score.
In fact it was the second longest-range Premier League score of the season – after Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly also came on the same day.
The goalscorer said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.
Ten moments passed between Vicario coming out of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was five seconds after the clearance.
"I felt like the keeper was out of the box for a long time," he remarked.
"It amazed me none of the defenders returned to the goal line. When not one of them covered the goal, my eyes sparked a bit.
"Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a little additional opportunity. Then it was all about attempting to achieve the right contact and get it towards goal. I felt a good sense, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Poor Run, Everything Appears to Go Against You'
Jeering While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - Frank
While Vicario's mistake led coverage, this was an overall bad day for Tottenham to extend their home struggles.
The match was their tenth home loss of the year in the league, a shared team record matching nineteen ninety-four and 2003.
The side still have home games against Frank's old side the Bees and champions the Reds to play before the close of the season.
Only one of those wins have occurred since Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou in the summer.
"If you are behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated Frank.
"During in a bad spell, all aspects appears to go against you too – the first was a deflected shot, the second is a error from the keeper.
"The outcome puts us in a position where we have suffered another game. Each fixture has a unique narrative, this game we lost in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to keep working. The later period was much better and hopefully something we can use to learn."
Spurs have lost four consecutive home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are recording nine point five attempts and 3.2 shots on target per match in the Premier League – their poorest averages on record in a one campaign (since at least 2003-04).
Former Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy stated that Frank has to endure the criticism.
"He must accept the criticism," the pundit said. "He has accepted a prestigious job at a huge team with enormous anticipation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that comes with that.
"Their showings at their stadium have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
