Outrage as Renowned South African DJ Gunned Down in Johannesburg.
A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation struggling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Police said the 40-year-old presenter was confronted by three suspects, with one shot at him before fleeing on foot.
The reason behind the incident is unknown and no one has been arrested have taken place, police said.
The Fatal Incident
Police revealed that Stock was attacked as he was leaving a location in the vicinity of the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the site managing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unidentified individuals, it was reported.
"It is alleged the victim was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report confirmed.
Surveillance tape reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what looked like a guard's attire firing shots on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.
It was further revealed that Stock had an weapon on his person and nothing was taken during the incident.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were discovered at the location.
Appeal for Witnesses
Police have appealed members of the public who may have have information to assist with the investigation.
"We know they traveled on foot after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to find their location," added an official.
A Nation in Mourning
His sister, Nicole Stock, expressed the relatives are devastated to process his death.
"Words fail me. I don't have words," were her words.
"Everyone understood he was a voice for many people. He was a fearless commentator about issues not many people were prepared to speak about. This is a tremendous loss."
She requested the public to refrain from sharing graphic images from the scene, explaining this was an extremely painful time, particularly for Stock's three sons.

Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that was broadcast on a popular local broadcasting platform.
Apart from his media career, Stock was engaged in various business ventures, including security provision, supplying VIP protection services and securing major functions across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in real estate operations and was involved in building evictions.

His killing has shocked the country and prompted an flood of condolences from his audience, the authorities and political parties.
A government minister remarked he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's killing.
"He was forthright without fear or favour. He even spoke up against me and my actions as a minister. He was a true embodiment of who we must aspire to be," he stated.
A party figurehead commented the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a shock for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director said that "DJ Warras was more than just a face of a reality series. He was a talented storyteller, a passionate music lover and a warm soul who brought happiness and vitality to every performance. His dedication to creativity left an indefinable mark."
In a statement, the broadcaster he worked for said Stock was known for his presence, warmth and sharp wit, adding that his influence "will be remembered".
