The celebrated English actor Dame Helen, previously holder of an Academy Award, four Baftas, Golden Globe wins, five Emmys, and a Tony, will soon add another major award to her trophy case: the Cecil B DeMille Golden Globe career honor.

Honors Presentation

The actress, octogenarian, who was given a damehood in 2003 and named a BAFTA fellow back in 2014, will accept this honor during a presentation January 8, just prior to the main Golden Globes are held, during a ceremony promoted by the organization as the “Golden Eve”.

Also part of the event will be the awarding of the organization’s Carol Burnett prize for TV work, whose winner has yet to be announced. Previous recipients featured Viola Davis along with Ted Danson.

“Mirren stands as a powerhouse performer, with a career is truly extraordinary,” said the Golden Globes president, the Globes’ leader. “Her transcendent performances and devotion to her art constantly motivate countless performers and audiences alike. We are deeply honored to present her with the Cecil B DeMille award.”

Notable Roles

Helen Mirren gained prominence during the seventies through significant parts in theater in the West End of London and with the RSC and in films such as O Lucky Man!, Caligula and The Long Good Friday.

In the 1990s, her starring role in the investigative show Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase significantly. Other important films include Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

She won an Oscar for her portrayal as Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 movie The Queen, a role she revisited back in 2013 in The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play about the meetings between the queen and prime minister Margaret Thatcher, a performance for which Mirren won a Tony in 2015.

Latest Works and Future Roles

• Later-career movies include Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda and Barbie, which she narrated.
• Her role in the streaming adaptation for The Thursday Murder Club has received positive reviews with award talk is growing about her portrayal as a dying matriarch in the film by Kate Winslet first directing effort, Goodbye June.
• Next year, she will appear in the role of Patricia Highsmith in Anton Corbijn’s drama, Switzerland.

Globes nominations are set to be revealed December 8, including Anderson’s One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners expected to feature heavily.
